Highlights from 2022

2022 was another eventful year with a mix of coaching, playing, travelling, organising, injury and meeting great people along the way. I really enjoy my ‘job’ so thank you to everyone that has been a part of it in any way - here are my highlights from 2022.

January

The year couldn’t have started any better - being named as one of Golf Monthly’s top 50 coaches in the UK.  This was absolutely amazing and one of the best achievements I’ve received to date.

February

6-year-old Henry becomes the first junior to complete my Junior Programme at Southampton Golf Course. He went on to complete the programme at Dibden in June and finished 2nd in the British Junior Tour in September, qualifying for the Junior World Championships in San Diego.

March

I started doing more online lessons in 2023 and even more when I ended up with my leg in plaster after a silly accident while giving a bunker lesson! A broken foot is something I did not expect to happen ever from coaching golf! Online coaching has been fantastic though - I can coach people all over the world and for some people, it’s more convenient than face to face.

April

The Top 100 Tour kicked off in April at Hindhead and we had some fantastic trips over the year, visiting Broadstone in Dorset, Royal Liverpool which will host in The Open this year, Formby and Formby Ladies, The Grove - which was one of the best golfing day experiences I’ve had - and Saunton for a two-day trip to Cornwall. The schedule for 2023 is looking really exciting with big numbers already booked on.

May

I launched my first Nine+Dine event in May at Southampton Golf Course which offers beginner golfers the chance to meet other players of similar abilities, play holes on the course and enjoy food afterwards in a casual and social setting. I’ve ran four throughout the year and will be looking at running more in 2023.

June

NC Golf expanded in June and I began offering lessons at Hamptworth Golf and Country Club and now teach at the club every Monday.

July

It was in July that I managed to tick off a bucket list trip; to watch The British Open and what a time to do it as it was the 150th at St. Andrews. To go to The Open but also St. Andrews was amazing!

August

I broke my foot! I was initially in a boot which wasn’t ideal but meant I could still get around and offer lessons. But in September, I had a CT scan and the doctors were concerned that there was a risk of long-term damage and arthritis. So, in September, I had it broken again, put in a cast, and couldn’t walk for 8 weeks - meaning I was out of work until November. A big thank you to everyone for being so understanding and for your kind messages during the time.

September

In September, I decided that after nearly seven years at Southampton Golf Course it was time to move on and I stopped offering lessons at the club. I absolutely loved my time there - it was the first full-time coaching job I took, I've met some really great people, and everyone at the club and the council has been great, but it just felt like it was time to move on.

October and November

Due to my broken foot, October and November were very quiet months for me, but it did mean that I could offer more online lessons and plan ahead for 2023.

December

I launched the Top 100 Tour schedule for 2023 in December with some really excellent courses on the list including West Sussex, Burnham and Berrow, Royal Ashdown, The Belfry and more. Everyone is welcome to join the Tour and spaces are filling up quickly.

Overall, it’s been a really great 2022. I’ve delivered 844 lessons and hope to deliver 1,000 in 2023. I’m also looking forward to lots more coaching, more events, lots of playing, two unique golf holidays already in the diary and a trip to San Diego with Luke and Henry for the Junior World Championships! I think it’s going to be a good year!
