2nd place at Hockley
On Wednesday 10 January 2018, I played in the first Hampshire Winter Series event of 2018 at Hockley Golf Club near Winchester. I paired up with John Lawrence, a member at Cams Hall, the weather was perfect and we had a great day.
Tee off for us - alongside Sam Pleshette from Cams Hall and his partner Aman (playing off a 2 handicap!) - was 11.00am, so at 10.00am I headed out to the range for a warm up; 50 balls on the range, 10 minutes chipping; and 10 minutes on the putting green. Perfect.
At 11.00am, we teed off from the 18th. John opened up with a great drive down the middle. I then followed nicely. And we both had a good round. I shot a 2-over par-72, and as a team we had 41 points in Better Ball. John had a lovely birdie on the par-3 12th hole after nearly holing his tee shot for an ace. I played nicely all day, just had too many silly mistake like a couple of three-putts and two bad wedge shots.
We finished tied 2nd as a team which was a great result and I finished tied 5th in the professional individual competition. So we had a successful day overall. The golf was followed by a two-course meal and presentation in the clubhouse. Lovely.
A huge thank you to John for playing, Sam and Aman, and to Hockley Golf Club for hosting. Roll on my next tournament at South Winchester on Wednesday 14 February, for a Valentines-Day special with Terry Greenhough...!
