Bad weather at Winchester

On Wednesday 14 February, myself and Terry Greenhough played in the Hampshire Winter Series at South Winchester Golf Club.

The night before, the forecast was rain at 10.00am until the evening. Our tee time...10.00am :( and for once the weather was spot on.

As we stood on the first tee, the wind picked up and the rain came down. Mine and Terry's spirits were still high. We started very well, both level par through four holes and playing solid golf. But the rain and wind picked up and the cold really started to kick in. At this point we had wet grips, clothes and hands like blocks of ice.

Our energy levels started to deteriorate and the more we went on, the cold got to us. We got round in good time but shots were were being dropped all over the place.

I ended up with 24 points, Terry 28 and 33 as a pair betterball. I finished tied 13th individually and we finished tied 11th as a team. Overall, it wasn't a very good day for either of us, but in 25mph winds, rain and 0 degree temperatures it was difficult. The most satisfying part of the day was a nice coffee and a hot meal at the end!

Thanks to Terry Greenhough for making the effort and teaming up with me. My next event is back at South Winchester for the Hampshire Pros four ball event on Monday 12 March. Wish me luck!
